
The presence of flexible and elastic cartilage tissue at the ends of bones, where the joints are located, facilitates their movement. However, as the cartilage gradually deteriorates, friction increases, ultimately causing the bones to wear down and causing severe pain in the knee area.
It is known as Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA). If we compare the hip joint to a ball and socket, in this surgery the defective head of the femur, which usually loses its spherical shape, is removed and a prosthesis similar to the real head is implanted in its place.
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) plays an important pivotal role in the knee, and its damage causes serious mechanical impairment. In addition to preventing dislocation of the knee forward; it also acts as an axle, because the ACL is located in the center of the knee like an axis or hinge, it also controls the rotation of the knee; for this reason, patients with ACL tears feel the knee dislocating or giving way during sudden rotational movements or changes in direction.
